Friday 9 August

Grachtenfestival (Canal Festival)

Where: Historic Canal Belt of Amsterdam

We all know of its beauty, but did you know the historic canal belt of Amsterdam is actually a UNESCO World Heritage site? That makes it the perfect setting for Amsterdam’s annual classical music festival, which might just be your only opportunity to see a cello, on a canal (helloooo)! The festival runs from 9-18 August, when you can find stages set up around the canals as the next generation of Bach's play to punters listening canal side, or even from their own boats! So stock up on wine and cheese, find yourself a boat and anchor in front of a pontoon stage for a classical concert like no other! Now that's what you call cultured.

Festimi Soundsystem - All Night, All Summer

Where: De Marktkantine, Jan van Galenstraat 6, 1051 KM

Festimi is home to some of the best DJs on the scene, so they don’t mess around when it comes to throwing parties. This Friday’s bash is no different, as Festimi Soundsystem take over one of our favs, De Marktkantine, for an entire night of bumpin' beats & booty shakin'. Festimi parties are always a good time, so if you’ve never been lucky enough to catch one, make sure you get your deprived butt down to this Friday Festimi fun!

Saturday 10 August

Viva Frida!

Where: GO Gallery, Marnixstraat 127,1015 VK

It’s been 65 years since one of the true OG Queens, Frida Kahlo, left our world and stopped painting the iconic Mexican folk art versions of her “own reality” that we so cherish. This incredible exhibition pays homage to Frida’s life and legacy, showcasing how a new generation of contemporary artists have been inspired by her undeniable mark not just on the art world, but also on our understanding of culture, identity and society.

Loveland Festival

Where: Sloterpark, 1064 GW Amsterdam

As one of the original Dutch dance collectives, Loveland has been drawing people to the D-floor ever since 1995. For 14 years running these veterans of the electronic music scene have been kindly hosting one of the biggest festivals in Amsterdam; a multi-genre mix up of some of the biggest names in dance, along with the best up and coming talent. This year, legends Carl Cox and Solomun headline the bill, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg! Head down to Sloterpark this weekend to discover the dance music feast Loveland have prepared just for you…

Sunday 11 August

Circus Gang on NDSM Wharf

Where: NDSM-Plein 28, 1033 WB Amsterdam

It’s a circus, but not as you know it… This is an NDSM style circus. This weekend on the NDSM Wharf, you can find all the usual acrobats, clowns and contortionists — but in a cooler, grittier light than you’ve ever seen them before! Circusbende Foundation aims to bring a refreshed version of an old school circus to the Netherlands. You won’t find any chained bears in this tent — a Circusbende Circus is all about presenting art and life in crazy, creative new forms. Think live music as a soundtrack to an insane mash-up of acrobatics, theatre and dance. The entrance is free, but some acts require a donation and others a pre-purchased ticket, so head to https://circusbende.wixsite.com/circusbende for more info!

A ZeeZout Sunday w/ Omar Souleyman & Folamour

Where: Lofi, Basisweg 63, 1043 AN Amsterdam

As their name suggests, ZeeZout, (Sea Salt to us English folk, although that has less of a ring to it…) are BIG fans of sunny Sunday sessions. That’s why we are positively pumped for their latest day party, where you can catch an epic live performance by Syrian folk King, Omar Souleyman, in beloved ZeeZout venue Lofi. Lofi is a former workshop turned creative urban oasis, featuring a raw warehouse space along with a newly added outdoor space that is just perfect for a dreamy ZeeZout Sunday! Omar won’t be the only one getting you grooving under the sun — hot new French DJ Folamour will be spinning tunes, with more artists to be announced!
