Friday 5 July

Over het IJ Festival

Where: NDSM Wharf/Various locations

The 27th edition of Amsterdam’s annual theatre festival, Over het IJ, will begin this Friday and run until July 14, set as always on the hip & happening NDSM wharf. This year the festivals heart will be set around Sexyland, where you’ll find food, drinks, and the festivals famous Sea Container Performances -  which always prove to be a crowd favourite! A unique exploration of modern theatre, IJ Festival uses the city not only as a stage, but also as a source of inspiration… So you might just catch one of the pop-up, location-specific performances where you least expect it!

Vondel Disco X Hermitage

Where: Hermitage Amsterdam, Amstel 51, 1018EJ Amsterdam

Gather round children, for the majestic Hermitage Museum is set to be baptised for its 10th birthday… DISCO BAPTISED! By none other than Amsterdam’s beloved silent disco collective - Vondel Disco. These guys know how to put on a party, and a summer birthday party within the lush inner garden of the Hermitage? This is sure to be one to remember. This is a vrijmibo on the grandest of scales, so swap your church hats for headphones and meet us on the (rather fancy) d-floor.

Saturday 6 July

Georgie's Wundergarten ’19

Where: Ruigoord

Each year as summer smiles down on us once more, Georgie’s Wundergarten in the magical Ruigoord opens its gates; welcoming revellers, romantics and rebels alike to come and play in a Georgian Utopia! As the mystical force behind these legendary summer parties, Georgie wants her WonderGarden to be a little slice of paradise within our turbulent world, a place where you can drink, dance, eat and be merry with likeminded people who just want to have a bit of fun! Think DJ booths in the forest, beers (not bears) in a treehouse, cushions, costumes, and most importantly — plenty of places to get lost…

Sunday 7 July

Empowerment Film Festival

Where: Vondblbunker, Vondelpark 8A, 1071 AA Amsterdam

The Vondelbunker is a volunteer-run, autonomous cultural centre based on the shared belief that living space is a political concept. It has been running an exciting, engaging and eccentric cultural programme since 2011, and the newest edition - the Empowerment Film Festival - is set to be all of these things and more. On Saturday and Sunday this weekend, Vondelbunker will be screening films and documentaries, plus hosting talks and discussions all centred around the central theme: “The City in Action!” This is set to be an interesting one, plus it’s free… So come, be informed, get active and take back your space with some good old people power!
