Amsterdam Gay Pride is without a doubt one of the happiest events of the year. This year the event takes place from Saturday, July 27th until Sunday, August 4. During these days there will be festivities and celebrations all over town. The city is a vibrant rainbow of events in gay and straight venues alike, with dance parties, film screenings, sporting events, debates, exhibitions and much more. One of its most famous highlights is the spectacular Canal Parade. And you don't want to miss the Drag Queen Olypics, with events like the Stiletto Sprint, Handbag Discus and the 'Tug of Love'. All kings and queens are welcome to cheer on the drag athletes as they battle for the gold at Homomonument.
If you do only one thing at Amsterdam Gay Pride, let this be it! The famous Canal Parade is without a doubt the ultimate highlight of Pride week. During the parade 80 organizations show what they stand for with their flamboyant boats and floats. There are boats from the biggest political parties in The Netherlands and the national police force to large corporations like Uber and Google. One of the more timely participants this year is a 'Make America Gay Again boat'.
This year route will be from East to West via Oosterdok - Nieuwe Harangracht - Amstel - Prinsengracht – Westerdok on Saturday, August 3rd, starting at 1 PM.
In the closing weekend of Gay Pride Amsterdam, August 2 to 3, street parties and open-air events will be organized all over the city. Get your rainbow on and check out the Pride main stage at Dam Square, the street parties at Zeedijk and of course the epic celebration at the Homo monument on Westermarkt. Wherever you decide to go, come as you are and embrace this year's Gay Pride theme "Remember the past, create the future"!
Did you know Stromma is a proud supporter of Pride Amsterdam? We collaborate during the Canal Pride by hosting the press on four of our boats - to make sure the rest of the world can enjoy the pride just as much as we do.
Don't miss these events!
